The Bigger Picture.

From August 11th, 2011

It’s pretty amazing when God allows me to take a step back from my selfishness and narrow perspective and see a small glimpse of the bigger picture.
It happens rarely. Most of the time I stay blinded by my current circumstances, bitterness, doubts, or situations in my past that I think I will never understand.
But every once in a while, God graces me with the ability to really see his fingerprints ALL up in those events that caused me pain or the times that I was confused. He shows me the joy he eventually brought me from the initial disappointment; freedom from the shame; healing from the hurt. The times in my life when I most questioned why things were going wrong and why people were turning their backs on me are the times in my life that I am most thankful for now. They’re the times when I learned to depend on God and realized how much I really need him.
I wish I could say that I have this kind of perspective the majority of the time, but that’s definitely not the case. However, when it does happen, it reminds me how much more beautiful the bigger picture is.
While I don’t believe we’ll ever see the fullness of this verse in this life, these little glimpses remind me of Romans 8:28.
“And we know for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
