Day 2.

From December 8th, 2011

Day 2 in Haiti (5/14/11)
I slept surprisingly well last night.  I woke up early in the morning when it was still dark, though, and had to go to the bathroom.  When I got in the bathroom I saw a big spider above the door.  When the door shut, it disappeared and I thought it had jumped on me.  I freaked out a little, and started brushing myself off as quickly as I could.  Then I saw it in a crack above the door.  When I went back to sleep, I had dreams about spider bites.
I love these people.  This morning we went to the kids’ club.  It’s kinda like a vacation Bible school.  They sang sangs, danced, recited poems.  Then they said in English, “We wish you welcome. Hello everybody!”  We went up and introduced ourselves and I said “Bonjou, Mweh rele Kristen.” The translator told them I was glad to be here.
The kids are absolutely precious.  I picked one girl up and held her on my hip so she could see the game they were playing, and she didn’t want to get down.  Several others started trying to get me to hold them after that.  We passed out gum to each of them and they loved it.  They kept saying, “chiclets!” This one little boy who looked like a toddler was especially adorable.  His name is Adley.  He repeated everything Tyler said, including all of our names.  He was wearing cute little overalls—his butt was showing the whole time!  Even though these people have so little, they wanted to show their appreciation and gave us several coconuts.  We all passed them around, sharing them with the kids and each other.  Later we are going to the orphanage.
